Ms. Casey!!! β™₯️ Electrifying, Ensorcelling, Earthshaking! I could just sit and listen to the Rural Musicians Forum and the chorus do their thing for days straight. 😊 A fantastically fitting performance in celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright's 150th.

This fungus is called Witch's Butter. πŸ•· It's edible after being boiled or steamed. Similar to the Wood Ear, it's highly prized in Asian cuisine. The texture would probably be a little too gelatinous for me to enjoy.

An influential poem ornamented in an influential style β™₯️ Louis Sullivan-esque ornamentation drawn by Frank Lloyd Wright for the book, 'The House Beautiful' by William C. Gannett. As a book collector, one of my favorite things to find are 19th century books which have ornamental art surrounding the text on each page. Early in Wright's career, soon after he left the firm in which he worked with Sullivan, he designed the art you see in this book and hand-printed the work in collaboration with William H. Winslow, by whom he had been given his first solo commission to design a home. The book sold for $6.00 then, which would equate to ~$175 today. This turning point in Wright's career would mark what he considered "true discipleship," which is influence without mimicry. He would later go on to criticize those he worked with at the Adler & Sullivan firm for not developing their own personal effect and relying too much on recreating what they saw in Sullivan's work.

Monotropa uniflora and debris caught in a web πŸƒπŸ•Έ These flowers are devoid of chlorophyll and rely on symbiosis to grow. They tend to like pine and beech trees and require fungal presence. They ooze and melt when mishandled and bruise easily. (much like me) Like you see on the left, they start their life with their one bloom turned toward the ground. When they reach maturity and start producing seeds, they raise their heads to face the sky.

My most prized possession at the moment!! β™₯️ Incapable of Conception they are masters of Appropriation // (side note: I'm positive the spots on the first page are foxing, iron oxidization from the brown ink Frank used to sign his name. The rest of the book is unaffected, so mold seems unlikely. πŸ™πŸ»)
