Yesterday afternoon we stumbled across this place, Toga, a tiny quirky cupboard of a restaurant, with only three tables that seat eight total. On the board it simple says āRamen and beer for 55ā (Ā£5.50/$7), as we love ramen we wondered in and talked to Ruben, the owner and chef. He told us it was no problem at all to make Tomās veggie and mine vegan āanytimeā he said, heās open from 10am until late. The place smelt so good we couldnāt wait to go back, so we did for dinner last night.
It doesnāt do it justice to say it exceeded our expectations, because it did that threefold. Ruben who we later found out has only opened this place three weeks ago as a real passion project, says itās food he cooks at home for his friends and family, coming to Toga is like eating in his home. Classically trained, he previously spent the last few years working at Gustu, La Pazās top restaurant lead by ex Noma chef Claus Meyer. Ruben to our great surprise spoils guests with a five course tasting menu of whatever heās feeling inspired by on the day, always centred around your ramen main course, this place is unbelievable. Such surprising, well thought out and delicious, he pairs flavours to perfection and certainly knows how to cook. Toga is the unique combination of all the skills and expertise of a fine dinning experience brought home in an informal setting and all for Ā£5! We still canāt believe the price, we had cocktails and beer included with our five courses, this place canāt stay unknown for long, Iām sure it will shortly be know as one of La Pazās not so hidden gems and have queues around the block and so rightly deserved!
