THE INTERVIEW REVIEW (SPOILERS)
I recently saw this on Youtube for free, and if you can find it--I highly recommend it. Partially because it makes me feel 'Merican for standing up for our R rated, potty humor comedies that almost start global terrorism!
But in all seriousness, this is pretty funny. Funnier than Neighbors, but perhaps not as good as Pineapple Express. The chemistry between Rogen and Franco is hysterical, the guy playing Kim is awesome as well.
Also, chops to the makers of this movie for its large scale. It looked like the most expensive comedy ever, which was pretty cool (I being a filmmaker, love set design). Needless to say, many times I nearly busted a gut laughing (partially due to NK jokes being all the funnier now with the threats) but other times...they fall sort of flat. There was one scene where they blatantly explain a joke, killing it, and other stretches of meh humor. But I appreciate them throwing as many jokes out there, the majority of them hitting the proverbial mark.
There's also some really good conflict with Franco actually liking Kim, and feeling unable to kill him, which was one of my favorite parts. I mean, who doesn't want to see Kim Jung Un cry like a baby over Katy Perry?
Overall, The 1st act was hysterical, the 2nd had a few unfunny jokes, but had some gut busters, the 3rd part wasn't very funny--because it turned into an action movie. Much to my manly enjoyment. THE VERDICT: Crude, inappropriate, silly, and overall pretty funny, The Interview is letter by letter the Rogan formula, so if you like that--you'll die for this (bad joke, I know). If you've disliked his distasteful junk before, you won't enjoy this either. It still baffles me how something as stupid as this flick will go down in history as probably the most famous comedy of all time. 8/10
