It is so easy for us to become anxious and frustrated when our aspirations fail to align with the right opportunities in a timely manner… or at least within a timeframe that satisfies us.

We must however understand that life does not comprise an established sequence of events, where everything falls in place for everyone, at the same time, in the same way, and for the same reasons. We are all on our own journeys, and our timelines are all unique.

The challenge for many of us however is that we allow our societies to prescribe what we ought to do, how we ought to do them, when we ought to do them, and to what end. This in my mind is a most injurious form of enslavement that is costing many of us our joy, our personal sense of fulfillment, and our identity.

It is incredibly liberating to know that your decisions in life are not based on the standards and prescriptions of a world obsessed with the superficial – materialism, pleasure, and what one Jamaican Reggae artiste describes in his chorus as the “hype”.

Today, I encourage you to live completely on your own terms – focusing on what God’s plan is for your life, even as you move in faith towards that which He has called you to.
